Three prime ministers were arrested for executing an unarmed man in São Paulo

Three Military Police officers (PMs) were arrested on Wednesday (3/12), on suspicion of executing a man, on October 8 this year, during their approach in Itapevi, in the São Paulo metropolitan area. The victim must be unarmed.

By court order, the agents were sent to the Romao Gomez military prison, in Vila Albertina, north of the capital, São Paulo.

Imprisonment of prime ministers

  • The detained police officers are from the 5th Special Operations Police Battalion (Baep).
  • The First Criminal Court of Itapevi ordered the preventive arrest of Lieutenant Marcelo Méndez da Silva and Corporals Rodrigo Silva Olivares and Geraldo Gomez Real.
  • The Military Police Internal Affairs Unit indicated that one of the officers handled the victim’s body and a firearm at the crime scene.
  • Police officers’ cameras recorded the execution.

The Public Security Secretariat said in a statement that the Internal Affairs Department asked the court to arrest the three military police officers. The ministry stressed that “the Prime Minister does not condone misconduct, and severely punishes all cases of this kind.”
