Toledo City Hall will install the sound system that the Cabildo uses during the Corpus Christi procession on the Christmas route. The measure, proposed by the deputy mayor and citizen security advisor, Inés Canizares, seeks to anticipate possible emergencies and … improve the management of crowd of people, especially in the busiest streets during these holidays in the historic center.
Cañizares explained that this is “a very important development from a security point of view, which will probably already be operational this weekend, but especially from December 23 or 24.” On Monday, during the Local Security Council, the need to deal with the crowds of people that we see every weekend, especially in the historic center, was felt. “We are considering possible risky situations, such as a stampede, an accident or even health problems, such as a heart attack.”
According to the deputy mayor, it will be the same sound system installed during Corpus Christi, which runs through all the streets of the processional route, will be reproduced on these Christmas dates in order to improve the response to emergencies. “We have been authorized by the cathedral, who will provide the sound system and facilities so that we can place it at key points determined by the local police,” said the deputy mayor.
This system will allow citizens to be informed quickly and directly in the event of an incident, which Cañizares said will help calm people and reduce anxiety in emergency situations. “We know that when people have information, they feel more peaceful. The lack of information generates panic and confusion, But if we have a real-time communication system, we will be able to better manage any situation, such as the fall of a person, the loss of a child or a medical emergency,” he said.
Installation operations for the sound system are underway and the system should be fully operational in the coming days. “Today (Wednesday) the police are coordinating with the city hall electricians, and if everything goes as planned, we want them to work this weekend to start providing a safer environment during the Christmas holidays,” Cañizares concluded.
