Tourism growth drives demand for travel insurance Dino

The resumption of international tourism among Brazilians has revealed significant changes in travelers’ behavior and choice of destinations. A survey conducted by Decolar.com, and published by the Mercado e Eventos portal, shows that demand for trips abroad grew by 26% in the second half of 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year.

Although traditional destinations such as Orlando (United States) and Cancun (Mexico) remain among the most sought-after destinations, the spotlight is on the countries of South America, with Buenos Aires (Argentina), Santiago (Chile), and Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) topping the rankings.

Data released by the Ministry of Ports and Airports, shared by CNN Brasil, reinforces this trend. Between January and August 2025, international flights to South American countries totaled 7.8 million passengers, including Argentina 3.2 million and Chile 2.3 million. This movement has directly affected the insurance sector, especially travel insurance, which has now become an essential component even for short trips.

A spokesman for Bora Seguro Viagem, a company specializing in international assistance, notes that Brazilians have been planning their trips better in recent years: “Travelers are doing more research before embarking on a trip, comparing coverage and trying to understand what they are really signing up for.” He adds that there has been a growth in family trips and groups of friends, as well as a preference for short-haul trips and closer destinations.

According to the expert, the selection of neighboring countries takes place amid a group of economic and logistical factors. “The rise of the dollar and euro, coupled with the practicality of shorter flights and the lack of major visa requirements, has boosted regional destinations. Moreover, countries like Argentina, Chile and Uruguay offer rich cultural experiences, fine cuisine and abundant nature, all with a cost-benefit,” he says.

Information from the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), published on the Poder 360 website, highlights the growth of Brazilian aviation. Between July and September 2025, Brazil carried 33.6 million passengers, an increase of 8.5% compared to the same period in 2024. In September alone, more than 10 million passengers used domestic and international flights.

With the increase in regional travel, purchasing behavior related to travel insurance has also changed, says a Bora spokesperson. Consumers are starting to look for plans that are more affordable, but guarantee security in the face of unexpected events.

“These short and frequent trips make travelers look for cost-effective plans, but without giving up on safety. Brazilians have realized that travel insurance is not just a requirement, but a way to avoid unforeseen events that can be very costly, even in nearby destinations,” notes the expert. It also highlights the growth in signing up for annual or multi-trip travel plans, aimed at those who travel frequently throughout South America.

Among the most commonly used coverages when traveling to South American countries are medical expenses resulting from specific health problems, dental emergencies, and lost luggage. “The use of assistance for canceled or delayed flights is also increasing, as many passengers take advantage of holidays and take short trips on these routes,” the representative notes.

To meet the new demand, Bora Seguro Viagem invested in product structure and customization. The company has expanded its network of service providers in South America by offering the service in Portuguese. Moreover, it offers specific plans for regional travellers, with prices and coverage appropriate to their travel profile.

The company’s recommendation for Brazilians planning international trips, especially to neighboring countries, is clear: obtaining travel insurance is still an essential procedure.

“Simple medical care abroad can be expensive and cause a lot of headaches. Having 24-hour Portuguese assistance and adequate coverage can bring peace of mind to enjoy every moment of the trip without worries,” the specialist concludes.
