The Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region (TRF-4) upheld the dismissal and launched an administrative disciplinary procedure (PAD) against Eduardo Appio. (featured photo). The judge, known for having worked in the Lava Jato case, is suspected of having stolen champagne worth R$399 on three occasions from the markets of Blumenau, Santa Catarina.
Appio had been out of office since October this year. On November 27, the Special Administrative Court of TRF-4 decided to uphold the dismissal because it understood that “the seriousness of the behavior has in theory the potential to irremediably undermine the integrity of the judiciary and to make the exercise of the magistrate’s authority before the litigant peremptorily impracticable, thus placing his decisions under suspicion.”

Lava Jato judge Appio under investigation for alleged champagne theft
The same day, the PAD was initiated against the magistrate. According to TRF-4 documents to which the chronicle had access, Appio is accused of stealing bottles of Moët & Chandon champagne, with a promotional value of R$399 on three different dates.
The first incident was recorded on September 20. Appio had “consciously hidden the drink in a shopping bag”. The episode then repeated itself on October 4 and 18.
What the judge said
At the time the affair came to light, Appio told columnist Anderson Silva of Metropoles partner NSC that his alleged involvement in the affair was a misunderstanding and that he would take action.
“I don’t know what it is. I’ve always paid for my purchases. I have proof of it. I’ve always paid all my expenses, I don’t know what it is,” he said. He also said it was “fake news”, stating that “I have always been the subject of various persecutions”. He also added that he would take action for damages against anyone who “slanderously” attacks him.
