Truck drivers strike: Leaders say they will not join – 03/12/2025 – Market

The main representatives of truck drivers say they will not join the sectional strike called for Thursday (4), stating that the movement is ideological and could harm drivers.

The strike was announced by class representative Chicao Caminhonero, and retired judge Sebastião Coelho, known for supporting former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and criticizing STF (Federal Supreme Court) Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

“We have made the decision to start this process by inviting our fellow truck drivers to be with us to work and achieve our goals, ensuring that we begin to respect the existing laws that are unfortunately not applied to our category,” Chicao said in a video with Coelho posted on the former judge’s social networks.

According to the CNTTL (National Confederation of Transport and Logistics Workers), content about the strike was circulating in Whatsapp groups and on social media.

CNTTL said in a statement that it “does not condone politically manipulated movements that use one of the country’s most important transportation categories for such purposes.”

Wallace Landem, known as Chorao, another leader of this group, says that the strike called by Chicao and Coelho is actually a political movement in support of former President Bolsonaro.

“The goal (of the strike organizers) is to raise the movement using this transportation issue so that the truck drivers stop,” Chorao said.

It is reported that even if the participation in the movement is small, truck drivers can block important points on the country’s highways and impede the flow of vehicles.

In the video posted on social media, Chikau said that truck drivers participating in the strike would not impede “people’s right to come and go.”

José Roberto Stringaschi, of ANTB (Brazil’s National Transport Association), also says he will not participate in the movement. “Now is not the time to stop this category.”
