US President Donald Trump claimed US forces destroyed a “major facility” allegedly linked to drug trafficking last week as part of their campaign against a suspected Venezuelan-led network.
“They have a large factory, or a large installation, from which the ships leave. We destroyed it two nights ago,” underlined the Republican tycoon during an interview on a radio program broadcast this Monday by the American media.
During Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to his Mar-a-Lago residence, the tycoon detailed that “a large explosion” occurred in the area of a “dock” where the alleged drugs were being loaded onto boats. “We attacked all the ships and now we are attacking the area,” he said, adding that it was an “implementation zone.”
The White House has not yet confirmed the attack or provided details on the location or its role in drug trafficking in the region, although if confirmed it could be the first direct attack on Venezuelan territory.
In recent months, the United States has launched bombings against suspected drug-trafficking boats in the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean – which left more than 100 people dead – and even threatened an invasion of the country, led by President Nicolas Maduro, under the pretext of fighting drugs.
