The President of the United States, Donald Trumpdefended this Wednesday that the American naval deployment on the coast of Venezuela is “just a block“, after announcing it as such a few hours before and before the resolutions presented by the Democrats in the House of Representatives to withdraw the armed forces from “hostilities” with “terrorist organizations” in the Western Hemisphere and “within (the) or against Venezuela”.
“It’s just a blockade, We won’t let anyone pass who shouldn’t pass“, declared the tenant of the White House in reference to the measure he announced, limited to “all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela”.
Trump pressed his argument that the executive branch chaired by Nicolas Maduro acted illegally against American interests in this Caribbean country: “They took away all our energy rights“They took all our oil from us not so long ago and we want it back, but they took it, they took it illegally,” he said.
His statements came as the House of Representatives debated and ended up rejecting by just a few votes two resolutions concerning the US military deployment in the Caribbean.
The first document calls for the withdrawal of the U.S. military “from hostilities with any terrorist organization designated by the President in the Western Hemisphere” unless Congress has declared war or authorized the use of military force for such purposes. Again, received 210 votes for against 216 against.
The second resolution would withdraw the armed forces “from hostilities within or against Venezuela that have not been authorized by Congress,” but was supported by 211 representatives and rejected by 213despite the support of three Republicans, including Marjorie Taylor Greene. Texas Democrat Henry Cuellar voted against both resolutions.
