Madrid, December 3 (European Press) –

US President Donald Trump described the meeting between his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, and an American delegation headed by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff as “very good,” which concluded after five hours without any apparent progress being recorded.

He said in statements to the press from the Oval Office: “I can tell you that they had a very good meeting with Putin. (…) If I were president, this war would never have happened. It is a terrible thing, but I think they had a very good meeting yesterday. We will see what happens,” adding that he cannot say “what result this meeting will achieve because it takes two people dancing the tango.”

When asked whether Witkov had the impression that Putin wanted to reach an agreement, the White House resident said that the Russian president “wants to end the war,” according to the impressions that arose after the long meeting, although he refused to answer whether he believed him when he expressed this position.

He concluded: “Their impression was that they would like to see the end of the war. At least, a return to a normal life. I think they would like to trade with the United States, frankly, rather than lose thousands of soldiers every week. But they had a strong impression that they would like to reach an agreement.”

Trump’s comments came hours after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that “some progress” had been made following talks in Russia on Ukraine, but stressed that “only” Putin could end the war.
