MADRID, December 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, on Tuesday proposed the current Undersecretary of Homeland Security, Troy Edgar, as the next ambassador to El Salvador, with a view to strengthening the already good relations with the president of that country, Nayib Bukele. The nomination requires Senate confirmation to be effective.
This was stated on his Truth Social platform, where he highlighted Edgar’s “outstanding leadership”, as well as his “excellent record in protecting our homeland and supporting our ‘America First’ agenda.”
“His experience, discipline and deep knowledge of the challenges posed by border and Western Hemisphere security make him the ideal choice for this important position,” he said of “number two” in the portfolio led by Kristi Noem.
The tenant of the White House, who described his Salvadoran counterpart as “a great ally in the fight against crime, cartels and chaos”, assured that the undersecretary “will play a key role in advancing our strategy for the Western Hemisphere, strengthening cooperation with President Bukele and guaranteeing the security and prosperity of both nations”.
The US president defended Edgar’s nomination, which will have to be voted on in the Senate, as “a big step towards the restoration of American strength throughout Latin America”.
Bukele, for his part, published a brief message on his social network account X, assuring that “we will receive him with open arms.”
