MADRID, December 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, assured that the composition of the peace council for the Gaza Strip, which is part of the second phase of the American proposal on the future of the Palestinian enclave, would be announced in early 2026.
“It will be known early next year and it will be one of the best meetings ever,” Trump said at a White House news conference. “In reality, (the council) will be made up of leaders of the most important countries and we will have very distinguished people who want to participate. Kings, presidents, prime ministers; everyone wants to be part of this council,” he clarified after being questioned about it.
Thus, the announcement of its composition was postponed at least until January, although initially everything indicated that the measure could be adopted by Christmas.
The New York tycoon continues to minimize violations of the fragile ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) for the Gaza Strip and assures that the second phase of his proposal on the future of the enclave “will arrive very soon”.
Last week, he stressed that the implementation of this second phase “is going well”. “The second phase is moving forward. It will come very soon,” he said then, after Israel announced that five of its soldiers had been wounded in a suspected attack by armed militiamen in Rafah and confirmed a response bombing in Khan Younis, where at least five Palestinians were killed, including two children.
