The president of UNITED STATES, Donald Trumpdeclared this Thursday (18) that he had met yesterday Christopher Wallerdirector of the Federal Reserve (Fed), and will announce who will be the new president of the American central bank in the coming weeks. Trump also said he has met with three or four candidates so far. “He’s great,” Trump said of Waller.
The Fed director is one of the names being considered to take the helm of the Fed next year, with the end of the mandate of the current president of the monetary authority, Jerome Powell.
The White House economic advisor, Kevin Hassettand former Fed director Kevin Warsh are also among the candidates.
The American president has repeatedly criticized the conduct of monetary policy by the American central bank throughout this year, defending costs more the lowest. On Wednesday (17), Waller said there was room for further reduction, but also defended the independence of the Fed.
