The president of UNITED STATES, Donald Trumpsaid this Thursday that he would have no problem informing the National Congress on a possible ground attack by the American armed forces against Venezuela.
Questioned by the press on this subject, during a ceremony in the Oval Office of the White House, the American president said he “wouldn’t mind” informing members of Congress about a ground incursion into the Latin American country.
“I wouldn’t mind letting them know, it’s no big deal. But I don’t need to. I just hope they don’t release this information,” Trump said.
The US president has repeatedly suggested a possible ground incursion into Venezuela under the pretext of fighting drug cartels in the region, but without going into details of these plans.
Since August, Washington has deployed a war apparatus to the Venezuelan coast, in addition to carrying out more than 20 attacks against ships in the Caribbean and the Pacific, also under the pretext of fighting drug trafficking.
In total, these boat attacks have left around 90 dead to date. More recently, the Trump administration has increased pressure on Venezuela’s oil sector.
Last week, US forces seized the tanker “Skipper”, previously sanctioned for transporting oil from Iran and Venezuela. This week, the US president announced that all sanctioned vessels entering and leaving Venezuela will be seized if they navigate international waters.
At the time, the United States also designated Nicolas Maduro’s government as an “international terrorist organization.”
