The President of the United States, Donald Trumpin a recent statement, said US forces would have attacked a facility on the territory of Venezuela as part of what Washington sees as an offensive against drug trafficking in the region. If confirmed, it will be the first attack by American forces inside Venezuelan territory.
In an interview with the Cats & Cosby radio show, hosted by John CatsimatidisA Trump supporter and owner of WABC radio, Trump said U.S. forces destroyed a facility that would be responsible for sending the boats who have been in Washington’s crosshairs in recent months.
“They have a big factory, a big facility where the boats come out of. Two nights ago we destroyed it“, declared the American president last Friday (26).
He did not provide details on what that factory would be or where it would be located in Venezuela.
The attack has also not been confirmed by any other U.S. officials. THE White House has not issued any official statement on Trump’s speech and has not responded to requests for a response from international media.
If confirmed, the attack would represent an unprecedented U.S. offensive on Venezuelan territory, something Trump has sometimes discussed.
Since August, the United States has sent a war machine to the Venezuelan coast, in addition to attacking more than 20 ships, in the Caribbean and the Pacific, suspected of being involved in drug cartels in the region. In total, around 90 people died as a result of these attacks on ships.
More recently, the US government has increased pressure on Venezuela’s oil and gas sectoran important source of resources for the country. Earlier this month, Trump announced a blockade of sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuelan ports.
The government of the President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduroaccuses Washington of “piracy” and of wanting to steal the South American country’s natural resources.
