MADRID, December 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –
US President Donald Trump assured Monday that the North American country would keep the oil from ships seized in recent weeks and that it would also keep these ships detained.
“We will keep it. We can use it for strategic reserves. We will also keep the ships,” he said at a news conference from Palm Beach, Florida.
At the press conference, he was asked about his statements regarding interventions on land, not just at sea, to end drug trafficking, and specifically whether he was referring to Venezuela. “No. Anywhere. Anywhere the drugs come from, not just from Venezuela,” replied the American president.
In addition, he threatened his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, stating that “if he acts with firmness, it will be the last time he can do so.” “(Maduro) can do whatever he wants, we have a huge navy, the biggest we’ve ever had and, by far, the biggest we’ve ever had in South America,” he added.
As on other occasions, he reiterated his accusations that Venezuelan authorities were “sending people from prisons, psychiatric institutions and asylums to the United States, who were entering without further delay because (his predecessor, Joe) Biden had an open border policy.”
In this sense, he indicated that he spoke with the Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, and the “border czar”, Tom Homan, who “did an incredible job”, as he emphasized.
“We are acting very quickly. But this should never have happened. However, Venezuela has benefited more than any other country from the open borders created by Biden,” he assured.
Trump made the statements during a press conference in which he announced a plan to build warships to renew the US Navy, including a new type of large-tonnage ship.
