Christmas is only one day a year, but its celebration is such that it transcends the entire month of December and even part of January, encompassing holidays like New Year’s Eve or the Three Kings at a time of year that we commonly call “Christmas.” On these dates there are many characteristic elements, such as Christmas lights in the streets and houses, fir trees, nativity scenes or Christmas carols. But if there is something else that stands out from this party, it is the typical food, especially the sweets, since the traditional savory dishes vary depending on where you are in Spain. Thus, nougat, almond paste, pollorones, mantecados, roscón de Reyes, yemas or panettone have been filling the shelves of supermarkets and kitchens in our country for weeks, being the star snack of gourmands. Nougat, in particular, is one of the most popular treats in recent years. The most classic are hard or soft nougat, with almonds, chocolate, guirlache or egg yolk. However, this product allows you to make it in many different flavors, from fruit flavors like orange, lemon, strawberry or blueberry, to other nuts like pistachio, to more rare and daring creations like those with cheese, coffee, matcha tea, brownie, mojito, milk meringue, donuts or dulce de leche, among others. One of the most common complaints about this candy is that many famous chefs are launching their own nougat creations, experimenting with new flavors, combinations and textures. The proof is the videos that many share on social networks tasting the new products launched on the market each year. Fran Riera, culinary content creator, did her own tasting, trying three nougats launched by a popular brand of these sweets that is characterized by betting on different and exclusive flavors. In collaboration, chefs Quique Dacosta and Jordi Roca create two self-created nougats that the young man tried and shared on his TikTok account. “Panettone nougat from Quique Dacosta: this nougat is praline and panettone ganache and candied fruit. It smells a lot like panettone. It’s chocolate panettone, I love it, I love it. It’s delicious, I would say 100% the best nougat of this year”, says the content creator, who proceeds with the second type of nougat, that of Jordi Roca: “Jordi Roca’s chromatic orange nougat: it contains orange praline, carrot cake, nuts and orange candies. Hey, it’s delicious, very good. The texture reminds me a little of Polvorón, marzipan. Finally, the young man tastes a Nocilla nougat, the famous cocoa cream and, before trying it, he already predicts that he will like it: “It will be scandalous”, he comments with a smile on his lips. “It’s very delicious but because I’m a big chocolate lover. It’s crispy inside, but I have to say that Nocilla doesn’t taste like Nocilla. Finally, Fran gives his particular verdict after trying the three nougats with atypical flavors for this Christmas: “The one with panettone, the best nougat of 2025 without a doubt,” he says bluntly.
