Military police officers from the 7th BPM (Alcântara) arrested two men this Friday in the Jardim Catarina community, in São Gonçalo, in the Rio metropolitan region. The two men were in a car. Two rifles, two pistols, magazines, ammunition and a ballistic vest were found inside the vehicle. Police said one of those arrested was suspected of being the local drug dealer. The second man in the vehicle was a military policeman. Their identities have not been revealed.

According to the Prime Minister, the car was intercepted on the RJ-104, while heading towards the Alcântara viaduct. The two prisoners were taken to the 74th DP (São Gonçalo). One of them was a fugitive and was responsible for the crimes of homicide and battery. The Prime Minister was transferred to the 4th military judicial police station, subordinate to the General Inspectorate of the Corporation. Subsequently, the police officer was taken to the PM Prison Unit, in Niterói, where he will remain detained at the disposal of justice.
In a note, the Military Police reported that the command of the corporation reiterates that it does not tolerate possible mistakes or the commission of crimes committed by its members. According to the Prime Minister, the police officer will respond to an administrative disciplinary procedure which will be opened on Monday. The investigation will make it possible to assess whether or not he is capable of remaining on the Company’s staff.
