MADRID, December 13 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Two soldiers and a civilian interpreter, all Americans, died this Saturday in an attack carried out in the Syrian province of Palmyra, in central Syria, as confirmed by the US Department of Defense.
“Today in Palmyra, Syria, two US Army soldiers and an American civilian interpreter were killed and three were injured,” Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell reported in a message posted on his X social network account.
Parnell said the attack occurred while the military was participating in support of a counterterrorism operation against the Islamic State. The identities of the deceased have not been released pending notification of next of kin. “This attack is the subject of an active investigation,” the spokesperson stressed.
Immediately, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth emphasized that “related forces killed the savage who carried out this attack.” “Make it known: If you attack Americans anywhere in the world, you will spend the rest of your life on edge and on edge knowing that the United States will hunt you down, find you and kill you without mercy,” he warned.
Earlier, the official Syrian news agency SANA reported at least two Syrians injured and “several” Americans hit by gunfire during an attack carried out by at least one as-yet-unidentified armed individual against a joint patrol near the Syrian town of Palmyra.
The shooter, according to security sources from the agency, died, riddled with bullets coming from the patrol. American helicopters intervened to evacuate the injured to the Tanf base after the incident.
