According to Engadget, some Rainbow Six Siege users noticed the unexpected appearance of cosmetic items on their profiles and observed unusual movements in virtual balance, while several accounts were ultimately banned. This type of change prompted Ubisoft to take immediate action and communicate the situation through the social network X, where it announced the temporary suspension of the servers as part of the initial response to the incident.
According to Engadget, the hack, which took place over the weekend, had a significant impact on the experience of players who saw their accounts run out of funds or, in other cases, receive large sums of virtual funds without a clear explanation. Players also reported new skins appearing on their profiles and not being able to access their account normally. When Ubisoft discovered these unauthorized accesses and changes, Ubisoft ordered the temporary shutdown of the Rainbow Six Siege servers, which also covered the video game’s virtual market (“Marketplace”).
The suspension lasted until early Monday morning, when the Ubisoft team itself announced the reopening of the title’s servers. As explained by Engadget, despite the main service resuming operations, the marketplace remained closed to prevent the changes caused by the attack from further impacting operations and trading within the game.
In reporting on the partial reopening of services, Ubisoft also cited the initial measures taken to mitigate the consequences of the attack. This includes suspending accounts that are involved in irregular transactions or identified as part of suspicious activity, as well as restoring access to profiles that have been inadvertently restricted, all with the aim of restoring security and reliability for legitimate players.
Another measure announced by the company, according to Engadget, is the cancellation of transactions made with funds that were additionally displayed in various accounts. Ubisoft said that despite the manipulation of these ineligible credits, the spending made by players up to this point will not result in automatic sanctions such as account suspension, ensuring that those affected by the changes do not face additional consequences to those who were already affected by them.

Players, influencers and specialized media reported massively on the incidents, triggering a wave of messages on social networks and forums that accelerated the reporting of the case and the company’s communications. Engadget stated that the company recommended keeping an eye on future updates and announced that further actions may be implemented depending on the discoveries and fixes they make.
Finally, Ubisoft keeps the communication channel open to report irregularities and reiterates the priority of full restoration of functions, protection of profiles and transparency in operations following this attack that has affected the Rainbow Six Siege community around the world.
