UFAM (Federal University of Amazonas) will hold, on Wednesday (10), the first doctoral committee composed solely of indigenous researchers in the country.
Jaime Mora Fernandes Diakara, doctoral student at UFAM in social anthropology, from the Desana ethnic group, will defend a thesis on the cosmology of his people and the traditional ways of producing and using caxiri, a fermented and alcoholic drink made from cassava or corn, present in the rituals of the inhabitants of Rio Negro.
The panel will be made up of researchers João Paulo Barreto and João Rivelino Barreto (Tukano), Sílvio Barreto (Baré), Justino Rezende (Tuyuka) and Rosilene Fonseca (Pirataouya).
Diakara is also an artist and author of the book “Nuku Wiímu Kihty: a tale never told”, presented by the writer Daniel Munduruku.
