Ukraine claimed on Monday (December 15, 2025) that its underwater drones had successfully attacked a Russian submarine docked in the Black Sea port of Novorosiisk for the first time in the war with Russia.
“The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) conducted another unique special operation and launched a sea attack on the port of Novorosiisk,” the organization said on Telegram.
“For the first time in history, Sub Sea Baby underwater drones blew up a Russian submarine,” he added.
The SBU said the submarine, which “carried four Kalibr cruise missile launchers” used to attack Ukrainian territory, “suffered serious damage and was disabled.”
Russia did not immediately comment on these claims about one of its $400 million submarines.
The SBU statement added that Russia was forced to withdraw its Black Sea Fleet to the port of Novorossiysk due to repeated Ukrainian drone attacks on its ships while they were stationed in the Crimean Peninsula.
Kiev has increased naval attacks on ships allegedly linked to Russia in the Black Sea in recent weeks. Russian forces regularly attack the Ukrainian port of Odessa.
Two Turkish cargo ships were hit in what Kiev called attacks on Russian targets in recent days.
Türkiye called for an end to attacks on ports and energy facilities and warned of an “escalation” in the region.
Since the Russian invasion began in February 2022, Ukraine has repeatedly attacked Russian ships in the Black Sea with drones and missiles.
