The text approved by the Senate limits the effects of PL Dosimetry to crimes committed in the context of the coups d’état of January 8, 2023. With this reduction, we sought to eliminate the risk that the proposal would benefit those convicted of other crimes, such as coercion during the process and promotion of prostitution. This is one of the main criticisms addressed to the project previously approved by the Chamber of Deputies.
Despite its limitations, the project still reaches the former president, convicted of crimes such as attempted coup d’état and violent abolition of the democratic rule of law. Currently, Bolsonaro is expected to serve a sentence of 5 years and 11 months in a closed regime. With the new calculation, this period would drop to 3 years and 3 months, which would allow him to be released from prison in early 2029. The reduction could be even greater, reaching 2 years and 3 months.
