Unidas por Extremadura closes the electoral campaign this Friday with an event in Badajoz, after the visit to Almendralejo this morning. There, the candidate for president of the Council of Unidas por Extremadura, Irene de Miguel, rejected a pact with the “socialist” Miguel Ángel Gallardo because “he has a huge backpack” and accused the PP candidate, María Guardiola, of “instrumentalizing feminism” and “boycotting democracy” for not attending the electoral debate organized on RTVE.
De Miguel indicated in the city of Badajoz that the PSOE of Extremadura needs an internal reflection and a new direction, because Gallardo makes any understanding with any progressive force difficult, both because of the judicial situation that is open and which keeps him indicted, and because of the “embarrassment” that his indictment has caused to Extremadura.
She was also particularly critical of the PP candidate, because, as she said, debates are the right of citizens to know and contrast the proposals and Guardiola’s absence represented “a theft of democracy”.
Furthermore, he described Guardiola’s actions regarding the theft of a safe from a post office in Fuente de Cantos as “embarrassing” in what, according to De Miguel, was “an attempt to tarnish a transparent and clean electoral process” and to create distrust in the work of post office employees, whom he defended for their efforts during those dates.
Irene de Miguel said the president of Extremadura was “very nervous” about the possibility of not obtaining an absolute majority and even losing autonomous government. “We will do everything to make this happen,” he declared, defending a regional model based on equal opportunities and the defense of public services against private companies.
Finally, he referred to the audios linked to the mayor of Navalmoral, of the PP, and the complaint for sexist treatment of a former councilor of his party, assuring that Guardiola intended to “cover up” an alleged case of sexist harassment of which he was aware but “paid no attention to it”.
“Feminism is not a weapon that we can throw against each other, precisely to end the impunity of sexists and protect women,” and she criticized the fact that Guardiola took “not a single measure” to protect the most vulnerable women during the legislature.
