CCOO of Industry, UGT FICA and the CIG have called on workers to support the strikes of January 27th and 28th and February 24th and 25th in defense of a “fair and dignified” agreement in the fish canning sector, after confirming that employers “have no intention of improving it”.
The proposal that business brought to the negotiating table a few days ago was “virtually the same” as the one it had sent to unions two weeks earlier, with the exception of an annual salary increase in line with the real CPI and an interim increase at the beginning, CCOO reported in a statement.
As a trigger for the conflict, the unions are considering a demonstration on January 24 through the streets of Vilagarcía de Arousa (Pontevedra), where an important part of the sector’s companies are based, as well as a possible mobilization in Cantabria before the strike days.
CCOO has proposed that this agreement provides for “fair and reasonable salaries” with increases reflected in payroll. It therefore considers that the employers’ proposal is “inadequate” and calls for an annual increase of 5%, with a consumer price index clause in case there is an “unexpected” increase in inflation.
