Seville City Hall was faced with a new problem the project to install awnings on the San Telmo bridge. The placement of tarpaulins on the footbridges over the river is one of the bets of the government of … José Luis Sanz to reduce the harmful effects of high temperatures in summer, but so far this has not been able to come to fruition due to various vicissitudes that have occurred during the mandate. First it was the need to write a project, then budget allocation and now, while the work was already underway, the Town Planning Department was forced to paralyze the work to comply with the safety requirements expressed by municipal technicians.
Specifically, Last September, the manufacturing of all the structures began necessary to cover the San Telmo bridge, an action that was awarded to the Heliopol company and which has an investment of 1.1 million. The schedule provided that Work will begin before the end of the year. to put these elements on the ground, but ultimately it will not be like that. Seville City Hall was forced to change course in the face of the report from the Mobility Delegation which recommended the opposite. Concretely, the technicians did not consider it appropriate that in these days of Christmas holidays, where restrictions and changes occur in the traffic plan and in which there is a lot of movement of people In the area, the installation phase of the sails will be carried out, which requires cutting one of the traffic lanes and limiting pedestrian traffic on the sidewalks.
Some criteria which led the head of Town Planning to issue an instruction by whichand these works are paralyzed until the end of Christmas and of which the Executive Management Committee will be informed today. This decision represented a setback in the plans of the local government, which had even chosen to Do not place Christmas lighting on any of the sidewalks of the San Telmo Bridge this year to leave free space to the contractor’s operators, as announced by Mayor Sanz during the presentation of the municipal programming of these festivities. It will also be necessary that today readjustment of annual payments for this work is authorizedconsequence of this change in deadlines. Municipal sources confirmed to ABC de Sevilla that Work will resume after the holidays and will be completed by this summerwithout however specifying an exact date.
The technical solution
Thanks to this project, the San Telmo Bridge will for the first time be equipped with awnings in summer. The candles will continue removable curved metal gantry frameswith an architectural design which, according to the Town Hall, consists of a semi-arched stretched textile covering on the two sidewalks, equipped with internal vertical reinforcements in the contact area between the sidewalk and the road to improve performance against the incidence of the sun. The canvas rests on a removable metal structure, anchored to existing lamp posts and some small posts integrated into the guardrail facades, which are linked together by means of interior longitudinal beams. These are designed with the same finish as the existing banisters and lamp posts. This architectural design of the canopy also requires a vertical skirt between the luminaires which makes the system more efficient.
The works will also renew the current lighting of the San Telmo Bridge, including a double system that will avoid shadows cast by the awnings.
Jobs also involve renovation of bridge lightingon which no action has been taken for many years. Concretely, the space currently has 34 floor lamps with two types of lighting fixtures. What is planned is to install additional double lighting to “reinforce night lighting” and to neutralize the effects of the new shadow plane that may occur between the street lamps and the ground due to the new awning”, specifies the municipality. In this way, they will be available light projectors attached to existing lamp posts oriented towards the textile fabrics, so that they act as diffusers of indirect light towards the sidewalk; and on the other hand, low beacons will be installed in the new rooms which will provide “more direct light on the sidewalk”.
The awnings of the San Telmo bridge join other projects carried out by the Sanz government to limit the impact of high temperatures. So far, this mandate, the candles reached the Paseo Marqués de Contadero or, more recently, the Avenida de la Constitución. The contract for the coverage of the most commercial streets of the old town has also been extended and has recently been the subject of a new call for tenders for its installation over the next three years. In this new file, in addition to giving continuity to the routes traveled, The executive incorporated others like Alfonso XII and José Gestoso. In this project, the Town Hall plans to invest an amount close to 1.7 million euros.
