The American attack on the territory of Venezuela, the first since the start of the North American military offensive in Latin America and the Caribbean, was carried out by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The information was published this Tuesday (12/30) by CNN International.
According to military personnel with knowledge of the operation, drones were used to attack a port in Venezuela’s coastal region. CNN reported that the action aimed to target boats allegedly used by the Tren de Aragua faction for drug trafficking. No one died during the bombing.
The operation, according to Donald Trump, took place on 12/24. In a conversation with journalists in Florida on Monday (12/29), the US president said the bombed site was a “large facility from which boats leave” from Venezuela with narcotics. As on other occasions, the American leader did not disclose the evidence of his accusations.
The Pentagon has not yet officially commented on the operation. Like Washington, the Venezuelan government has made no comment on the matter.
If confirmed, this attack could become the first against Venezuelan territory since the start of the American military mobilization in Latin America and the Caribbean, in August of this year, under the pretext of fighting drug trafficking. Since then, following the US offensive in the region, more than 23 ships have been attacked in the waters of the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean – without authorities revealing concrete evidence of the link between the boats and the transport of narcotics.

Brazil says US blockade of Venezuela violates UN Charter
Washington’s war against what the Trump administration has begun to label “narcoterrorism” has Nicolas Maduro as one of the main targets. The president of Venezuela is named head of the Los Soles cartel, a group that recently joined the US list of international terrorist organizations.
By associating trafficking with terrorism, the North American government has opened the way for military actions in other countries under the guise of fighting terrorism – as happened recently in Middle Eastern countries against jihadist groups. The North American mobilization in Latin America therefore acquired the status of an official military operation in November.
In addition to accusing Maduro of running a drug cartel, Trump also began to name the Chavista leader as the perpetrator of alleged theft of American oil and “energy rights.” For the North American president, his Venezuelan counterpart used profits from fuel to finance “narcotic terrorism”.
Amid pressure against the political heir of Hugo Chávez, three oil tankers linked to Venezuela have already been seized by American forces. In addition, the US president imposed an air and naval blockade on the country led by Maduro.
