According to the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted deadly kinetic strikes against “three vessels operated by designated terrorist organizations in international waters.”
“Intelligence confirmed that the ships were using known drug trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and were involved in drug trafficking. In total, eight male narcoterrorists were killed during these actions – three on the first ship, two on the second and three on the third,” the military command reported.
So far, Donald Trump’s government has presented no evidence linking those killed in the operation to drug trafficking – an action similar to what happened in the latest attacks.
With this new operation, the number of ships bombed by the American army in the waters of the Caribbean or the Pacific Ocean rises to at least 26.
According to Washington, the military campaign in the region aims to target cartels that transport drugs into the country. Despite official justifications, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is the main target of American threats. Indeed, the Chavista leader is named head of the Los Soles cartel, a group recently classified as an international terrorist organization by the United States.
