MADRID, December 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –
This Saturday, American soldiers seized another tanker carrying Venezuelan hydrocarbons which was trying to circumvent the blockade imposed by Washington, according to American media citing sources close to the operation.
The assault was carried out by the US Coast Guard with support from other sections of the armed forces and took place in international waters, according to sources cited by CNN television.
“It’s a message for (Nicolás) Maduro,” explained one of the sources consulted by the news portal Axios, referring to the president of Venezuela.
One of Axios’ sources pointed out that this photo shows that the American military deployment in the Caribbean makes sense. “Even if we don’t take the oil, the message to anyone who wants to play this game is we’re going to intercept you whenever we want. ‘Who’s going to take that risk?'” he said.
This is the second capture of a Venezuelan tanker in the past two weeks after US forces deployed in the Caribbean Sea seized the tanker “Skipper” on December 10.
Six days after the capture of the “Skipper”, US President Donald Trump announced the blockade of all ships on the sanctions list. For the moment, it is not known whether the ship seized this Saturday was on the sanctions list.
The US military contingent deployed to the region has killed 104 people and destroyed 29 vessels suspected of drug trafficking since it launched an operation aimed at stopping drug trafficking from Venezuela. Additionally, U.S. leaders emphasize that the goal would also be regime change in Caracas.
