United States Deputy Secretary of StateChristophe Landau, declared that the PL dosimetry This is a “first step” toward correcting the abuses he says are occurring in Brazil’s justice system. Landau spoke on his social networks, Thursday evening (11), before THE American government announce the withdrawal of the minister Alexander de Moraes, of the Federal Court (STF)from the sanctions list of Magnitsky law.
Landau’s comment was republished on the official profile of the United States Embassy in Brazil, early in the afternoon of this Friday (12). The Assistant Secretary of State, a department headed by Marco Rubio, welcomed the approval of PL Dosimetry by the Chamber of Deputies this week.
The draft amends articles of Brazilian criminal law that could reduce the sentences of those convicted of attempted coup d’état and the length of time they would remain in a closed regime. THE former president Jair Bolsonaro is among those who will benefit, if the text is approved. The proposal is currently being examined in the Senate.
“The United States has consistently expressed concern about the use of the legal process to exploit political differences in Brazil and, therefore, welcomes the bill passed by the House of Representatives as a first step toward correcting these abuses. Finally, we are witnessing the beginning of a path toward strengthening our relationship,” Landau wrote.
The deputy secretary had previously spoken out on other occasions to criticize the actions of Alexandre de Moraes, whom the United States accused of promoting censorship in the country and persecuting the former president. Similar statements were made by other US officials when the US government announced the price against Brazilian products and the application of the Magnitsky law against Moraes, in July.

At the time, Donald Trump and the deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), who openly articulated these sanctions, conditioned the end of the sanctions on the approval of an amnesty for Jair Bolsonaro. The PL Dosimetry, in its current version, does not provide for a general amnesty, as the Bolsonarists defend.
Landau did not comment on the withdrawal of Moraes and his wife, the lawyer Viviane Barci de Moraesof Magnitsky. The end of the sanction comes after a rapprochement between the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Trump.
