
The United States, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey advanced this Friday in the second phase of the peace plan in Gaza and opted for various regional integration measures, as indicated this Saturday by the American special envoy for the Middle East. Steve Wittkoff.
Witkoff noted in his X profile that the meeting, which took place in Miami, discussed the implementation of the first phase of the ceasefire, which “has produced progress” such as the expansion of humanitarian aid or the return of the bodies of hostages.
During discussions on the second phase, countries highlighted, among other things, the need to establish a governing body in Gaza. “under a unified Gazan authority” in order to protect civilians and maintain public order, Witkoff noted.
Likewise, countries analyzed measures of regional integration such as trade facilitation, infrastructure development or cooperation on energy, water and other shared resources.
These elements were considered “essential to the recovery of Gaza, regional stability and long-term prosperity.
Present at the meeting were the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani; Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.
The countries also expressed support for the establishment of the Peace Council as a transitional administration for the civil, security and defense domains. reconstruction of Gaza.
Likewise, they reaffirmed their “full commitment” to US President Donald Trump’s peace plan and urged the parties to conflict to fulfill their obligations.
According to Witkoff, they will remain in the coming weeks more queries to advance the implementation of the second phase.
The first stage of the agreement, reached through mediation by the United States and other countries, provided for the cessation of hostilities, the release of all Hamas hostages and Palestinian terrorist prisoners by Israel and the entry of humanitarian aid.
At the same time, the second phase of the agreement includes the total withdrawal of Israeli troops, the disarmament of Palestinian militias, the reconstruction of Gaza and the creation of a transitional government.
