MADRID, December 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –
American authorities announced Friday that they had launched a “massive attack” against Islamic State targets in Syria, in response to the attack carried out last weekend in the Syrian province of Palmyra which left three Americans dead, including two soldiers.
“US troops launched a large-scale attack against ISIS infrastructure and weapons depots in Syria. This massive attack follows the December 13 attack against US and allied forces,” US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced in a brief statement.
The attack carried out in central Syria while the military was helping to support a counterterrorism operation against the jihadist group resulted in the deaths of two members of the Iowa National Guard and a civilian interpreter.
US President Donald Trump lamented “the loss of three great American patriots in Syria” and said it was an “Islamic State attack on the United States and Syria” in “an area that is not fully controlled” by Syrian authorities.
