Caetano Veloso, who turned 83 this year, continues to be more than a singer and composer: he is a “critic and thinker”. The stage presence and the work reveal an “intellectual architecture” shaped by six decades of intense observation of Brazilian identity and dilemmas.
The longevity of the artist is remarkable. In good health, he is now 83 years old and is fully active, performing and aligned with the new era of festivals.
There are signs that he could cross the threshold of 90 while still on stage, something he faces with the serenity of someone who transformed anxiety into art.
Caetano considers himself an “antenna that captures in his work the desires and joys of the country, acting as a sensitive chronicler of public life”.
His lucidity on national problems led him to commit to utopia. For him, it is essential to “improve many things to support the madness of the world”.

This commitment is reflected in his analysis of contemporary politics, where he believes that “the political maturity of the country depends on society’s capacity for mobilization and dialogue”. He even participated in an action against the amnesty of the putschists on January 8, feeling the harmonious energy of these people.
The artist’s mind, always at the forefront of the aesthetic avant-garde, also focuses on new technologies. Caetano admits that artificial intelligence “fascinates him a little and scares him a lot”.
This duality appears in the most recent work, in the album “Meu Coco” (2021), in which the song “Anjos Tronchos” critically reflects on the “angels already mi or bi or billionaires” who influence the digital world.
