The inexorable passage of time has taken away another of the most emblematic voices of Utrera, witness and protagonist of the golden age of flamenco in this city. Inés Suárez Jiménez, better known as ‘Inés de Utrera’Fernanda’s niece … and Bernarda, and who, with his brother Luis, formed an unforgettable musical duo that performed on stages throughout Spain for many years.
Led by their aunts, considered the most authentic essence of flamenco singing, not only in Utrera, but throughout the world, “Inés y Luis” represented the most festive part of flamenco singing, but without ever losing sight of their origins. In the 70s and 80sthey played in numerous performances, as well as in recordings of songs that became popular such as “Corazón de Niño” or “Del Cielo Bajan”. Luis Suárez, Inés’ inseparable other half, died in March 2020 at the age of 69.
The golden age of this period was experienced in Madrid, with numerous performances. Among them, those that took place in the flamenco tablaos of Lola Flores, both in the Spanish capital and in the city of Marbella, in Malaga. At the end of the 80s, Inés and Luis opened a stand at the Utrera fair, located on Bulería streetwhich has since become a meeting point for artists and fans of the city’s flamenco world.
