The mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, visited this Thursday the construction works of the new Early Childhood and Primary Education Center (CEIP) Santo Àngel de la Guarda on the grounds of the former Parque Central de Ingeniero. “This is a highly anticipated project … in the Raoisa district, since the public school is currently in a barracks and has been waiting its turn since 2018, as the school director now explains to us. “We gave absolute priority to all the works of the Pla Edificant which we considered to be priorities,” he added. Catalá regretted that during the eight years in office of the previous municipal government “none of the nine centers included in the Pla Edificant saw the light of day.”
Currently, CEIP Santo Àngel de la Guarda students study in prefabricated classrooms installed on Gaspar Aguilar Avenue with a capacity of 400 places. Precisely, the mayor of Valencia also visited these facilities, accompanied by the management team. The construction of the new educational center will allow increase the number of units both in preschool (7 additional classrooms) and primary school (7 additional units). In total, the new CEIP will be able to offer up to 750 places.
María José Catalá took the opportunity to take stock of the actions of the City Council in this regard: “We have completed the CEIP Carles Salvador, the CEIP Malilla should end next March and, as we can see today, the work on the CEIP Santo Àngel de la Guarda has already begun. “In addition, the works of the CEIP San José de Calasanz are in the tender phase and the development of work projects for four other centers has already been awarded,” added the mayor.
The construction of the new educational center in the Raiosa neighborhood, with a budget of 9,978,994.59 euros, is being carried out by the company Citanias Obras y Servicios and the execution time is 18 months. The aforementioned company was the winner on September 19 of the public call for tenders launched by the Town Hall, in which a total of six companies participated. This action is included in the Edificant Plan, in which the Generalitat and local administrations of the Valencian Community cooperate for the construction, expansion, adaptation, reform and equipment of public education centers.
The work is therefore entirely financed by the Generalitat. The mayor indicated that “The work is expected to be completed in summer 2027. and that only and exclusively the supply of school supplies is missing, which is a different process that we will also do with the Department with the greatest agility.
The project provides for the creation of 12 preschool education classrooms (three in the first cycle and nine in the second cycle), 18 primary education units, Valencian driving games and a dining room (with capacity for 300 people in two shifts), on the existing site at number 250 calle Sant Vicent Màrtir. The land on which the school will be built occupies a nominal area of almost 12,000 square meters and its shape is that of a rectangular trapezoid. The former Central Engineering Park, the Military Construction Department and the Army Quartermaster Warehouse were located on this location. The land is also located within the urban planning framework of the surroundings of the future Central Park. The plot is surrounded by four newly developed streets, the alignments of which constitute the limits of the school site.
This will be the new center
The main building, three floors and two bays deep, it will house the Primary classrooms and a side-lit corridor. On the ground floor, it is planned to install a multipurpose room, the gymnasium changing rooms, a porch and the entrance hall. The management offices will be located on the first floor, which will be connected to the secretariat on the ground floor and the teachers’ room on the second floor, by means of an independent staircase.
On the right side of the primary school entrance hall are the dining room, the kitchen as well as the counter and technical rooms. On the left side you will find the administration and general services body, as well as the gymnasium body and the sports facilities for ratchets and ‘galotxeta’. Perpendicular to the highest body of the building, there are three pavilions in series and one perpendicular, in which the 9 general classrooms and units for the second cycle of preschool education will be located on the ground floor, and on the upper floors, 12 general classrooms for primary education.
