Vasco can lift a national cup again next Sunday (21), if they beat Corinthians in the final of the Brazilian Cup, after 14 years of fasting. Cruzmaltino’s last achievement was in 2011, when they also won the tournament.
If the Rio club becomes champion, Frenchman Dimitri Payet could win the first title of his more than 20-year career.
Although he left Vasco in June this year, the player played for the team in this edition of the Copa do Brasil: he played 13 minutes against União Rondonópolis and 20 against Nova Iguaçu.
With this, Payet can be crowned with the title.
Hired by Cruzmaltino in August 2023, the Frenchman has made 77 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals and providing 16 assists.
Payet, one of the team’s highest-paid players at the time, left the club after suffering several injuries that sidelined him.
