Vasco is back in the Copa do Brasil final. With the 4-3 victory on penalties this Sunday at the Maracanã, after a 2-2 draw on aggregate in the two matches, the Cruz-Maltino team once again decides the tournament after 14 years.
The Cruz Maltinos will face the Corinthians in the decider. The first match will take place next Wednesday, at the Neo Química Arena. The return match will take place in Rio next Sunday.
This will be Vasco’s third appearance in the Copa do Brasil final. And the most recent memories are positive. The last time he went for the title, in 2011, he became champion.
Cruz-Maltino, who was then playing his second final, won the title against Coritiba. They won the first match 1-0 and lost 3-2 in the return. At the time, the away goals rule was in effect and broke the tie in favor of Vasco’s team.
Previously, Vasco had already played in the final of the 2006 edition. But they ended up being defeated by their great rival Flamengo.
Remember the Copa do Brasil final played by Vasco:
- 2006 – Flamengo Champion / Vice-Vasco
- 2011 – Champion Vasco/vice-Coritiba
- 2025 – Corinthians x Vasco
