At least four people have died after being swept away by a giant wave on the island of Cangrejo, Tenerife, in the Canary archipelago, Spain. The accident occurred in a natural swimming pool last Sunday (7), and one person remains missing.
According to authorities, the site was closed to the public due to weather conditions, with weather services warning of strong waves of up to 3.5 meters. Around 4 p.m. local time (1 p.m. Brasilia time), a strong wave hit the space, carrying away the victims.
Three of the swimmers – two men and a woman, aged between 35 and 55 – were found on Sunday. Another woman, rescued alive and transported to hospital, died the next day following cardiorespiratory arrest.
The dead tourists came from Slovakia and Romania. An injured person is hospitalized and the search for a fifth person continues.
