Security camera footage captured the crash of a Russian An-22 military transport plane. The plane crashed in the Ivanovo region, northeast of Moscow, with seven crew members on board, according to local state media.
All crew members died in the accident, the Russian Investigative Committee reported last Tuesday (9). The agency did not confirm the number of people on board or release details about what caused the plane to crash.
“During a test flight, after repair work, an An-22 military transport plane crashed. The plane crashed into an uninhabited area,” the Russian Defense Ministry told local news agencies.
A person familiar with the matter confirmed to the TASS news agency, on condition of anonymity, that seven people were on board the plane.
There is no indication that the incident is linked to the Ukrainian war or accusations of kyiv’s involvement. It appeared to be due to a technical defect in the plane, which had been in service for more than 50 years, business newspaper Kommersant later reported, citing people with knowledge of the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity.
