Every day, 28 businesses are closed under the government of Javier Milei, who has radically opened Argentina’s economy. The president says cheaper products are now accessible – and says laid-off workers will be relocated to more productive sectors.
Experts warn that the only jobs growing are delivery and app drivers. Milei refuses to protect factories, while encouraging energy and mining above all. Over the past year and a half, 236,000 officially vacant positions have been lost.
“I don’t think that’s the case. It’s not the case because it didn’t happen with one company, with two companies. It’s a chain. And behind each of us there is a family,” says Maximiliano Therade, who also lost his job.
