Toledo local police issued a strong statement in response to the accusations made by the Municipal Socialist Group (PSOE), which questioned the lack of intervention of the agents during the Christmas demonstration organized by the Popular Party in the street of … Councils last Sunday. According to the PSOE, Several neighbors alerted local police to traffic problems and road obstruction caused by event attendees, who parked in unauthorized areas, blocking sidewalks and entrances, according to the release. Despite multiple calls made, the PSOE reported that at 4:00 p.m. they were informed that no agent would intervene since, according to the neighbors, “this order had been issued by the competent authority.”
The local police chief mayor, in his statement, categorically rejected these accusations. He assures that there have been no “instructions or orders not to report traffic violations”, denying the versions disseminated by the PSOE and certain citizens through the media and social networks. The mayor emphasizes that the actions of the police have always been guided by “technical criteria” and in accordance with the regulations in force.
The statement emphasizes that the Toledo Local Police strictly follows the principles established in Organic Law 2/1986, of March 2, on Security Forces and Bodies, which requires agents to act “with absolute political neutrality and impartiality.” Likewise, it emphasizes that any action is based on “legality, proportionality, timeliness and coherence” depending on the circumstances of the moment, always with the aim of preserving the common interest of the city and the safety of neighbors.
The mayor also defends the work of the police, rejecting any insinuation that there was political or media interference in their actions. According to the local police, the agents never tolerated external pressure on the way they act and always maintained their professional independence.
With this statement, the Toledo Local Police wants to put an end to the “slanderous accusations” that, according to the mayor, threaten the dignity and honor of the force, reaffirming its commitment to respect for the law and impartiality in its daily work.
For his part, the municipal spokesperson, Juan José Alcalde, announced this Wednesday that the Toledo City Council will take legal action “after the serious complaints publicly filed by the Municipal Socialist Group, so that its accusations are clarified and justified in court.”
According to the spokesperson, this is a “very serious” complaint which must be treated with the greatest seriousness and responsibility. This is why the Municipal Council “considers it necessary for each of the socialist councilors to appear before the judicial authority to confirm, justify or account for the statements made.”
