The President of the Republic, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), did not invite the Governor of the Federal District, Ibanes Rocha (MDB), to the ceremony to approve the bill allowing the appointment of 2,000 police officers and firefighters in the country’s capital, as well as granting salary increases to the FDF’s security forces.
No one from the Government of the Federal District (GDF) attended the event. In response to the report’s question about the absence of the local executive branch in Palacio do Planalto, Ibanes said it would not make sense for the trustees to go if he, the president, was not invited. “Here’s the thing,” he said.
Lula approved Law No. PLN 31/2025 which allows, among other things, a salary adjustment of up to 28.4% for the Defense Forces’ security forces and the appointment of 700 civilian police officers, 1,284 military police officers and 89 firefighters from the Federal District.
Ibanes stated that the federal government denied the parity with the Federal Police demanded by the Civil Police of the Federal District (PCDF) and which was expected in the increase request sent by the GDF, in February 2025.
“If I, the governor, are not invited, why should my assistants go? Here they have the leadership. The federal government has denied the parity that the security forces were waiting for. We do not owe them anything,” declared the Imedipista.
