Best electric blanket
We chose the Cosi Home electric blanket as the best in the comparison, because it is the one that offers the greatest option of levels to adjust the heat.
A good soft blanket for the sofa or bed can be more than enough to keep you warm in winter. However, if there is no heating – or you don’t want to turn it on – it may not be enough. Fortunately, the electric blankets They are the perfect solution because they require little energy to heat any room in the house. In EL PAÍS showcase We tested four models to choose the best.
Which electric blankets did we choose and how did we test them?
To compare this comparison, all the electric blankets that we chose had the same dimensions: 200 x 150 cm. However, during our research, we found a combination of features that we considered to find the best one: the fabric material, the adjustable power and heat levels, and the auto-off function. It is with these considerations in mind that we have chosen four models among the brands: Cosi Home, Beurer, Medisana and Proaller.
The testing we did with these electric blankets consisted of evaluating them with one to eight hours of continuous use. This also allowed us to verify the safety and temperature control of each model. Likewise, we used them both on the bed and under another blanket, and we washed them all to confirm that there were no issues when cleaning.
Which electric blanket was the winner?
I consider the Cosi Home electric blanket to be the best in the comparison because it allows you to choose between nine heat levels. Although it doesn’t have an auto-shutoff system, it allows you to set an auto-shutoff timer of up to nine hours.

How does it heat?
Available in three colors to choose the shade we like the most (mustard, gray or blue), the Cosi Home electric blanket has the same dimensions as its opponents in this comparison: 180 x 130 mm. Like the rest, when it is dirty you can put it in the washing machine and use a cold water program. It’s made of microfleece fabric that leaves good impressions and is very warm, even if you don’t want to turn on the built-in remote control. This fabric is characterized by its soft texture and the sensations to the touch are very pleasant. Also, the blanket seemed quite soft to me.
If the quality of the finishes of the electric blanket gets a very good rating, the same goes for the quality of its remote control. It’s the one that I liked the most and I appreciate, in addition to the size of its screen, the way in which its control buttons have been distributed. One of these controls is identified as “Time”: it activates the nine-hour timer with automatic shut-off that the manufacturer has included.
This blanket allows you to choose between nine heat levels. One of them has its specific control button, identified as “High”. So not only does it heat up sooner, but it also reaches the highest temperature it can offer. While using it, I felt comfortable and comfortable, as the heat is well distributed and maintained. It also has an anti-overheating function. It would be perfect if it included an auto-off feature.
Why do we recommend it?
The best:
- Very warm microfleece fabric.
- Soft filling.
- Remote control with large screen and well-distributed buttons.
- Nine hour timer.
- Nine heat levels.
To improve:
- An automatic shut-off function is required.
Other alternatives to the best electric blanket
Beurer HD 75 electric blanket
I really liked that the Beurer HD 75 electric blanket included an automatic shut-off function, unlike the winning model. However, it has three temperature levels lower and its plush fabric eliminates a lot of lint.

How does it heat up?
The Beurer HD 75 electric blanket, measuring 180 x 130 mm, has a good finish and the feeling to the touch is pleasant, because it is very soft. The only “but” regarding the design is that its fluffy fiber eliminates more lint than I would have liked. Even so, when I wrapped myself in it, I felt comfortable and very comfortable. Meanwhile, the control button is quickly removed and connected to the cover. This remote control includes a dual-function sliding switch: turning the blanket on and off and controlling its six temperature levels. In addition, at the top it incorporates a light indicator: it is a small red light which remains fixed when the cover is turned on.
With a power of 100 watts, the heat is distributed fairly evenly. In this regard, special mention should be made of the stroke of the button which functions as a sliding switch, since it is not necessary to exert much force to change position. So that the blanket starts to warm us as quickly as possible, it is advisable to start directly from level three or four. From a security point of view, it has an automatic disconnection function which causes the coverage to disconnect after three hours. It can be put in the washing machine at a temperature of 30º.
Why do we recommend it?
The best:
- Very warm and comfortable.
- Removable remote control.
- Good heat distribution.
- Auto-off function.
- Six temperature levels.
To improve:
- The fabric loses a lot of lint.
Plush heated blanket Medisana HB 675
Although it offers good power, the Medisana HB 675 electric blanket only has four adjustable heat levels. In addition, the screen is not visible in the dark, although it incorporates an automatic shutdown system.

How does it heat?
Perhaps the weakest point I found in the Medisana HB 675 electric blanket is that it only has four heat levels. It is therefore the most limited model in the comparison in this sense. Despite this, it has a power of 120W, so it is able to provide the same maximum temperature as the others and only has fewer ranges to choose from. On the other hand, its automatic shutdown system after three hours of inactivity is very practical.
Another slight downside to this cover is that when it’s completely dark, it’s difficult to see the heat levels on the screen. The only reference is a green light that indicates when it is on. In any case, during the tests I noticed that it heats very well and that its microfiber fabric is very pleasant to the touch. Of course, the remote control and its wiring can be removed to machine wash the blanket.
Why do we recommend it?
The best:
- Skin-friendly fabric.
- Very warm and comfortable.
To improve:
- It only has four heat levels.
- You cannot see the screen in the dark.
