The National Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued an orange alert for this Tuesday in Galicia and the Cantabrian region due to the arrival of an Atlantic front which will leave strong gusts of wind. Gusts could exceed 100 kilometers per hour, while heavy and persistent rain is also expected in Galicia.
According to Rubén del Campo, spokesperson for Aemet, the strong gusts of wind in Galicia are due to Storm Bram, so named by the Irish Meteorological Service. The expert calls for caution in the event of falling branches or even entire trees in poor condition.
Del Campo warns of major maritime storm in Galicia. “The waves could exceed six or seven meters and this wave is capable of dragging people onto beaches or cliffs,” he emphasizes.
Persistent and heavy rains are also expected in Castile and León and Extremadura, but especially in western and southern Galicia. Specifically in A Coruña, Pontevedra and Ourense.
Aemet also activated the yellow alert in Navarre and the Basque Country due to bad seas, especially on the Cantabrian side of Navarre, the Villaverde valley, Biscay, Gipuzkoa and Alava.
Stability is expected across most of the country, with slightly cloudy or clear skies. In the early hours, the low cloud cover will leave fog on the two plateaus, the Ebro Valley, the northeastern depressions, the Cantabrian Sierra and the Balearic Islands, but it will be denser in Mallorca.
Only in the northwest third will cloudy skies predominate due to the arrival of the front, which throughout the day will advance towards the interior of the peninsula until leaving a large part of the western half with overcast skies.
