The white and black team reached 60 points after the result in Mineirão, remaining in seventh place, but tied the score with Bahia sixth, and the team remained behind due to victories (17 to 16). It also reduced the gap to one point with Fluminense (fifth).
In the case of the trio of Rio and Bahia, since the two teams are ahead of the white and black team, and will face each other in the final round, whoever wins between Fluminense and Bahia will automatically occupy fifth place.
For this reason, Botafogo is the only one of the three that does not depend only on itself. The team will need to win against Fortaleza, at home, at 4 p.m., but it will also have to rely on a draw between Bahia and Fluminense, in the direct confrontation, which will be held at the Maracana Stadium, at the same time.
This brings the team to 63 points, surpassing the two teams who will have 62 and 61 respectively.
Now, if Fluminense finishes fifth, the team that comes in sixth will have a “final light at the end of the tunnel.” If either Cruzeiro or Fluminense win the Copa do Brasil, there will be another direct place in the Brazilian league.
As for Bahia, if they draw or lose against the tricolor, they will have to hope to defeat the black and white team as well, to remain in the same position. In the case of Botafogo, the team will have to at least draw and rely on the victory of its rival Fluminense.
