The famous mechanic Juan José, in his official profile of TikTokexplained which method we need to perform if we suffer from a flood and it completely affects our vehicle. The automotive professional assures that it is important “don’t tear it off” until several steps have been completed.
“If you ever flood the carnever try to start it to see if it works. So the only thing you will succeed in, if there is a possibility of saving it, is to destroy it completely. Water is not understandable, that’s why we should remove it from all the holes you have inside the engine to prevent it from sticking,” the mechanic emphasized at the beginning of the publication.
What should we do in this situation?
Well, as Juan José himself detailed, first of all it is necessary “disconnect the battery” and we will dismantle the entire electrical system before draining “all the liquids from the vehicle”: “The first thing we will do is disconnect the battery and remove the entire electrical system. Then, we will drain all the liquids and fluids from the vehicle whether or not they are mixed with water. Oil, brake fluid… as well as the fuel.”
Once these first steps have been completed, the next objective is to remove different parts, both in diesel vehicles and in gasoline vehicles, so that “do not seize the engine”: “We will remove the heaters or the injectors in a diesel car, and in a gasoline car the spark plugs or the injectors if this is more practical. We must try to drain the water from each of the cylinders so that the engine does not seize, as I detailed before.”
At the same time we cannot forget “air boxes” which exist in the engine, and which “could harbor water inside”: “They must be dismantled and emptied, as well as the electrical components, such as the fuse box, the connectors… it is also essential to clean them, blow them out and dismantle them.”
What is the last step?
Finally, we will perform the startup test. Of course, provided that you have disassembled and changed each of the fluids: fuel, clutch fluid, etc.: “We will proceed with the startup test. It is also very important to check the electrical components because otherwise a short circuit can occur with the water and create electrical faults.”
