“Peter was lying on the ground, face down, with a wound on his face, blood everywhere…” a neighbor told the New York Daily News, describing the macabre scene.
The newspaper also reported that a handwritten note was found at the scene, along with the actor’s body.
“I’m still a Westie,” the note said, referring to the 1970s Irish-American gang that operated in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood.
A representative for Greene did not respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Greene was pronounced dead Friday after being found unresponsive in his Lower East Side apartment on Clinton Street around 3:25 p.m. He was 60 years old.
Police told the Post that no foul play was suspected but the cause of death would be determined by the medical examiner. Greene was the father of a 16-year-old son, Ryder.
The “Pulp Fiction” star’s death was confirmed by his longtime manager, Gregg Edwards, who called the late actor an “amazing guy” in a statement to the newspaper.
“Truly one of the great actors of our generation. He had a huge heart. I will miss him very much. He was a great friend,” he said.
Apparently, Greene’s death came as a surprise to Edwards and those close to him, as he was scheduled to film an independent thriller with Mickey Rourke called “Mascots.”
