Even if the defenders of 100% Spanish traditions cry to the heavens, panettone returns to our homes at Christmas as much as nougat, roscón, lotería and chiquirritín. No need to resist: Italian sweetness is here to stay, it is in all supermarkets and in many pastry shops and bakeries, and it is part of the holiday food landscape, whether we like it or not.
Five years ago, we asked baker Tonatiuh Cortés to blind taste some classic supermarket panettones. In 2024, the owner of Suca’l confirmed that he is an expert in the field by winning the World Cup of Panettone, having won the award for the best in Spain in 2019. He now returns to El Comidista to face nine brands of the chocolate variety of this specialty. If you want to know their verdict, watch the video above.
