One of the most exclusive addresses in Los Angeles, the Brentwood district, where some of Hollywood’s biggest stars live, was rocked by tragedy this Sunday (14). Actor and director Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, 68, owners of the house, were found dead around 3:40 p.m. (8:40 p.m. Brasilia time) by police who, according to initial reports, were informed of a call from inside the residence.

Vehicles, investigators and forensic teams occupied the street, while the area was isolated. TMZ, a celebrity media outlet, said the Reiners’ daughter found the bodies and told police a family member was responsible. Nick Reiner, the couple’s son, was questioned overnight by municipal authorities and arrested this Monday morning (15) on suspicion of double homicide, with bail set at $4 million (R$21.68 million).
Speech of Hollywood dynasties
Located on Chadbourne Avenue, just minutes from Sunset Boulevard, the mansion is one of Brentwood’s most imposing properties. Reiner and Michele acquired the house in the early 1990s, after purchasing it from producer and screenwriter Norman Lear, creator of the legendary series “All in the Family”, a production which marked the start of Reiner’s acting career in the 1970s.

Dating from 1936, with 930 square meters of built area, the mansion follows the New England style, on a plot of almost 4 thousand square meters. There are six bedrooms, six bathrooms, two staff quarters and large social areas.
Highlights of the property include the tree-lined gardens, a large swimming pool with attached pavilion, and a tennis court located across the street. Over the years, the home underwent renovations that included the installation of a private screening room and a special guest suite.

In addition to its facilities, the mansion has passed through veritable Hollywood dynasties. Before Norman Lear, the property belonged to the actor Henry Fonda and, later, to Paul Henreid, still known for his role in “Casablanca” (1942), the resistance fighter Victor Laszlo, part of the love triangle consisting of Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart.
Rob Reiner, now 78, is a central figure in the entertainment industry, beloved by fans and colleagues, behind hits such as the romantic comedy “Harry and Sally – Made for Each Other”, the legal drama “A Question of Honor” and the thriller “Mad Obsession”, based on the book of the same name by Stephen King, and winning the Oscar for the role of Kathy Bates in 1991.
So far, the Los Angeles Police Department has not released details about the causes of these deaths or whether there is evidence of foul play.
History of addiction
The filmmaker’s son has previously faced chemical dependency issues. He spent part of his adolescence in rehabilitation institutions and eventually ended up living on the streets.
In 2015, when he appeared to be in recovery, he collaborated with his father on “Being Charlie,” a semi-autobiographical film about a successful actress and rising politician whose son is a drug addict.

Rob Reiner told the press at the time of the film’s release that it was difficult to be a father to a son with addiction issues.
“It was very difficult going through this for the first time, with these painful ups and downs,” he said, according to the Los Angeles Times. “Making the film changed everything again.”
TMZ reported that Rob and Michele went with Nick to a Christmas party for comedian Conan O’Brien on Saturday night (13), where guests said they saw “a loud argument” between father and son.
