Mega da Virada has established itself as the most anticipated draw on the Brazilian calendar, responsible for transforming punters into millionaires by the end of the year. In 2024, the tradition was repeated, with a total prize of 635 million reais divided between eight bets corresponding to six tens. For 2025, expectations are even greater: the estimated value has reached 1 billion reais, the largest in the history of the country’s lotteries.

In the 16th Mega-Sena special contest, held on December 31, 2024, the tens drawn were 01, 17, 19, 29, 50 and 57. Each of the eight winning bets received approximately 79 million reais, according to Caixa Econômica Federal.
The main prizes were distributed between different regions of the country. There were winners in the Federal District, Minas Gerais, Paraná and São Paulo, with bets registered simply and via pools. Brasilia and Curitiba concentrated more than one winner, while cities like Nova Lima (MG), Osasco (SP), Pinhais (PR) and Tupã (SP) were also on the list.
Of the eight bets that reached six tens in 2024, five were made in pools. In Brasilia, a three-odds game guaranteed more than 26 million reais for each participant. Another pool in the federal capital, with 30 shares, paid around R$2.6 million per person.
In Curitiba, a group holding 28 shares received approximately 2.8 million reais per participant. In Osasco, a pool of 56 shares brought in just over R$1.4 million per share, while in Pinhais, a group of 50 participants took home around R$1.5 million each.
Mega da Virada also distributed significant values in the lower bands. In 2024, more than 2,200 bets matched five numbers and received around R$65,000 each.
The court awarded almost 191,000 games, with individual payments of approximately R$1,086. Total revenues exceeded 2 billion reais, a growth of 2.6% compared to the previous year, with part of the resources allocated to social programs in the areas of health, education, sports and public security.
How to bet on Mega da Virada 2025
The 2025 edition reaches its 17th edition with a draw scheduled for December 31, at 10 p.m. Initially estimated at R$850 million, the prize rose to R$1 billion after the accumulation of the last regular Mega-Sena contest, driven by increased betting volume.
Games can be registered until 8 p.m. on the 31st, at lottery points, on the Loterias Caixa website and application or through Caixa Internet Banking. A single bet, with six numbers, costs R$6.00. Whoever chooses to score more tens increases their chances of winning, but also pays more.
In addition to the traditional bet, the bettor can choose “Surpresinha”, in which the system selects numbers at random, or participate in pools, a modality that allows the value of the game and, possibly, the prize to be divided. The competition does not accumulate: if no one obtains all six scores, the value is redistributed to the next range, and so on.
The odds remain difficult. In a single bet, the chance of winning the jackpot is one in more than 50 million. Yet with each new year, millions of Brazilians renew their bet on chance – and on the dream of starting the next year as a millionaire.
