The city of Córdoba is on the way to regaining a privileged place on the international entertainment map. After years of a notable lack of infrastructure for mid- and high-end events – a gap that was keenly felt following the permanent closure of the legendary Orfeo Superdomo – a new strategic alliance promises to change the rules of the game. This is an ambitious project that aims not only to attract the most popular artists, but also to offer the interior of the country a venue with technological standards previously only found in the city of Buenos Aires.
The formal announcement of 21st century dome marks a milestone in collaboration between the academic sector and the entertainment industry. fruit of Merger between Universidad Siglo 21 and the production company Universo JiménezLed by Carli Jiménez, the project considers a private investment of $12 million. The work has a clear goal: to prevent major international tours from passing through the center of the country due to a lack of closed venues that allow operation in all weather conditions, and to ensure first-class acoustics and comfort.
Construction of this new event center will begin next year 2026 Expected opening date: October 2027. As those responsible for the initiative explained, this new micro-stadium will not only be a music stage, but also an economic engine that will create more than 700 direct jobs and promote one of the areas with the greatest real estate and commercial growth in Córdoba, consolidating the north of the provincial capital as a cutting-edge logistics and leisure center.
Domo Siglo 21: a “boutique mini arena” with 360° technology
The Siglo 21 Dome is strategically located on the Siglo 21 University campus, right in front of the Ingeniero Ambrosio Taravella International Airport and is defined according to the concept of “boutique mini arena”. With a capacity for 4,500 people, the venue is the ideal location for medium-sized shows that aim for an immersive, high-fidelity experience, avoiding the immensity of open football stadiums, which usually present logistical and acoustic challenges for this type of audience.
The Domo’s differential will be included in its equipment. The organization confirmed that the stadium will feature a 360° surround sound system and ultra-high definition LED screens, using technology providers similar to those at Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires. This configuration allows for complete versatility: the structure will be modular, facilitating reconfiguration to accommodate everything from international rock and pop concerts to major academic conferences, trade fairs and elite sports competitions.
The comfort of visitors is an absolute priority and should stand out from the old closed stadiums. The project includes the design of VIP boxes with independent access and a gastronomic offer specially curated by Universo Jiménez, guaranteeing that the experience begins long before the lights turn on on the main stage. “We want it to be the most beautiful and relevant event center in the interior,” said Carli Jiménez when presenting the details of the work.
This is what the new Siglo 21 Dome, which opens in Córdoba in 2027, would look like inside
From Disney shows to the return of highly competitive sports
The agenda to manage the 21st Century Dome from its opening in 2027 is extremely ambitious. The business plan envisages a brisk volume of activity with the aim of achieving a similar frequency of events to the main venues in the federal capital. One of the developments that is generating the most excitement among local audiences is the return of large-scale family productions. There are already advanced negotiations with companies like Disney to restart the ice skating and musical theater shows that were once a provincial classic.
But music and theater will not be the only protagonists. The sports field will also find a strategic ally in the Dome. It is expected that, thanks to its dimensions and technology, the venue will host official AFA tournaments, especially in disciplines such as futsal, and will mark the return of professional tennis (such as Davis Cup or ATP tournaments) to a closed environment in Córdoba. This polyfunctionality allows the stadium to be busy 365 days a year.
Ultimately, the 21st Century Dome will have a disruptive educational function. For the university, this space will function as an “extension of the classroom.” Students with careers in show production, cultural management, marketing and communication can complete their internships in a truly world-class environment. In this way, the micro-stage will become a training laboratory where future professionals in the entertainment industry will be trained, while the public of Córdoba will be able to enjoy a billboard that will finally no longer be inferior to that of Buenos Aires.
