Various forecasts are beginning to consolidate a very hot scenario for the end of 2025 for the city of La Plata and surrounding areas. The sweltering temperatures will begin this Friday, although they will be felt much more strongly in the last three days of the year, when relatively high minimum and maximum temperatures are expected and this would trigger the first heatwave of the season over the city.
The dates are crucial for the population of La Plata to organize the 31st and New Year celebrations and of course to take some precautions for all groups of people vulnerable to high temperatures, such as older adults and babies, among others.
According to the specialist site Meteored, good weather is expected to continue in the AMBA region this Friday, the 26th, with northeasterly turning winds and a sharp rise in temperature with maximums of 32 ° C.
A weak cold front will move in quickly on Saturday 27th, which could leave some rain and isolated, fast-moving storms in the early morning and early hours. At midday and afternoon the weather improves and temperatures rise again, strongly influenced by the southwesterly continental wind, with highs of 34 °C expected.
For Sunday 28th, once the wind shifts from southwest to east, there will be another weakening in temperatures, on a day with partly or partly cloudy skies and maximum temperatures of up to 31°C.
From Monday the 29th the wind will turn again to the north-easterly and on the last two days of the year it will turn even further from the north or even north-west. Temperatures will again rise very sharply during this 3 day period, with high lows of 24°C and highs of 31°C expected, rising particularly towards Tuesday 30th December and Wednesday 31st December.
What will happen on the 31st: The worst is yet to come
If this forecast is met, it would result in the first official heat wave of the 25/26 season in La Plata and the entire AMBA, if the criteria of at least three consecutive days with minimum temperatures above 22 °C and maximum temperatures above 32.3 °C are met, according to the thresholds established by the National Meteorological Service.
We’ll have to watch the next forecast updates closely to see if 2025 will indeed have a very crushing farewell, especially considering what could happen for the celebrations on the night of December 31st if a major wind change occurs from the south that could change the scenario.
On Monday there would initially be a maximum of 32 ºC in La Plata, but these values could be significantly exceeded in the following days. So much so that on Tuesday the 30th, the minimum temperature would be 24°C and the maximum would rise to 36°C. Meanwhile, temperatures of a minimum of 24°C and a maximum of 35°C are expected on Wednesday, the last day of the year when families welcome the New Year.
The outlook could change on the first day of 2026. For now, New Year would bring some relief from the unbearable heat, with temperatures ranging between 19°C and 28°C.
